actually want to tow that much. The highway performance will be very weak, the brakes will be barely sufficient, and the will often be a lot of sway. The rule of thumb is that you want to actually tow no more than 70% of the max tow rating for the weakest part of your tow setup. For the Xterra, that will be less than the weight of the Z. My Jeep Cherokee has a 5000 lb tow rating also. If you search long enough, you will find a testimonial here on twinturbo.net about how miserable a time it was to tow the Z with a Cherokee. (I think it was a post from Damon, but I'm not sure.)
